Behaviour characterisations of sheet metals, metallic honeycombs and foams at high and medium strain rates

Abstract : This paper deals with dynamic testing and modelling of the metallic materials and soft structural material made of metals such aluminium honeycombs and foams. Tests are performed with the SHPB (Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar) system which is frequently used in a range of strain rates which correspond to those involved in most of civil industrial applications. Improvements of the SHPB were necessary in order to obtain reliable results on soft structural materials. Some experimental results and their modelling for metals as well as for aluminium honeycombs and foams wil1 be presented.
