ETSAP modeling tools: a bottom-up framework for energy issues

The Energy Technology System Analysis Program has been building and promoting the use of bottom-up energy models for several decades. Today MARKAL/TIMES approaches are used in several countries worldwide. This paper is dedicated to the presentation of the optimal approach on which the TIMES-FR and TIAM-FR models are relying. Some specific points related to its implementation at country level in the French framework and for multi-regional assessment are presented.
