Modelling of tools heating in hot forging processes

Résumé

Thermal fatigue and wear are some predominant phenomena contributing to the damage of tools. Both are strongly related to thermal evolution of the tool. To predict the lifetime of the hot forging tools, an important issue is then to determine accurately the temperature field during formation. The temperature of tools results from heating steps due to contact with the hot workpiece and cooling steps due to the lubrication and cooling with air. Thermal fatigue may appear by repetition of these steps leading to damage of the tool. A thermal periodic regime is reached after a significant number of forging passes and, in this state, abrasive wear ocurrs. This work aims to compute as efficiently as possible the thermal periodic regime and to determine the temperature in tools
