Compression of crumpled aluminum thin foils and comparison with other cellular materials

Abstract : The elasto-plastic behavior of aluminum crumpled thin foils was characterized in close die and uniaxial compressions within a wide range of relative density with different initial sizes of sheet. The experiments highlight that crumpled materials can present a hybrid behavior between foams and entangled materials with an auxetic behavior up to a relative density of 15%.
