Abstract : There is an increasing usage of powder processed materials by the automotive industry. Concurrently there is a need on the part of powder metallurgy (P/M) component manufacturers to better understand material behavior in an industrial environment. This need can be fulfilled by modeling the process of powder consolidation coupled with experimental work on model assessment. A simulation procedure is described here for the hot forging of P/M connecting rods. Results are discussed in terms of material density as a function of temperature.
