Justification of weld overmatch for strain based design applications
Résumé
In strain based design applications, it is necessary to demonstrate that the weld overmatches the parent metal properties to avoid strain localization at the pipeline girth weld. From an experimental point of view, it is always a challenge to accurately and consistently measure tensile properties in the weld metal area in particular in narrow-gap weld configuration and for low diameter pipes. This paper presents two experimental methods coupled with finite element analyses suitable for determining the weld material constitutive law.
