Long term energy modeling for south america with the times paradigm
Résumé
The TIMES paradigm based on market allocation optimization methods relies on the bottom-up representation of a Reference Energy System (technologies for the production, conversion and consumption of energy). TIMES models –and their MarkAl predecessors– have been developed and used for over 40 years by dozens of research units, state departments and private companies to produce techno-economic assessment of long-term policy scenarios, but so far the Southern American continent has not been represented in a specific dedicated model. As a first step towards the construction of such a regional model, this study aims at defining the base characteristics of a regional Reference Energy System in South America. Based on TIAM-FR projections on world’s scale and a bibliographical review of country characteristics over the continent, a disaggregation of South America for the purpose of long-term prospective modeling is proposed then discussed.
