Enquête de pratique « musicothérapie en néonatologie auprès des enfants nés prématurés et de leurs parents »

Abstract : Context : Researches in music therapy in the NICU tend to show benefits for the premature infant pacification, non-nutritive sucking, respiratory rate and for the maternal anxiety. However, the clinical practice in this fragile field remains very pioneer in the neonatal units through Europe and France. Aims : The aim of this survey is to study if music therapy can present a benefit on the infant physiological and behavioral stability and can support the parent/infant bonding during the hospitalization. Méthod : 12 sessions has been filmed and analized for a population of 4 babies. Physiological measures were compared with the behavioral signs of the babies, using the NIDCAP observation grid of the NICU of the hospital in Montpellier. A session with twins and their mother was studied separately in order to illustrate the « song of kin » model. One questionnaire adressed to the parents and one adressed to the health care providers has been analized. Results : Music therapy tend to show benefits to sooth the baby for his/her pacification. A significant lower heart rate between before and during the sessions has been observed. The « organized » behavioral signs and strategies have been found in a majority. Mothers feel more relaxed and interact with their baby during the sessions. Conclusions : This survey show a benefit of music therapy with premature infants and their parents. Music therapy seems to offer a relevant discipline of care in the context of the developpemental care implementation in the neonatal intensive care unit.
