Ma'Aden Phosphate project at Al Khabra (KSA). Phase 1. Pre-feasibility study. Hydrogeology and water supply.

Dominique Bruel

Résumé

The objective of the current report is the identification of an area with a groundwater potential, suitable for the future phosphate mining project planned at Umm Wu'al - Al Khabra by the Saudi Arabian Mining Company MA'ADEN. The region under study is located in the northern part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) about 30 km north east from the city of Turayf. It is roughly located in between latitudes 30° and 32° North and longitude 38 to 40° East. The whole industrial complex for NPK fertilizer production is to be installed close to the mined out area. For beneficiation processes and other chemical transformation units, a wellfield for water production has to be located and designed. The total requested production of raw water is given as 10 Mm3/year, over a period of at least 20 years.
