Résumé

The islands of the European Union represent a large potential for the installation of wind farms and PV plants due to their wind and solar resources and the high cost of electricity production in the isolated networks. However, in order to achieve a high level of integration of renewable energy plants, while maintaining a security in the grid, an advanced control system must be available to help the power system operators on site. This is the objective of the JOULE Π Project N° JOU2-CT92-0053 titled as : "Development and implementation of an advanced control system for the optimal operation and management of medium size power systems with a large penetration from renewable power sources". An advanced control system has been developed by the partners of the project and has been installed in the Greek island of Lemnos. The island of Lemnos has an installed diesel capacity of 13.25 MW and two wind farms with a total capacity of 1.14 MW.
